CANADIAN DIOCESE: 5 June, 2026 During the great feast of the Pentecost, Holy Trinity Cathedral in Toronto, ON, celebrated its patronal feast as is tradition. The festive services were led by His Eminence Archbishop Gabriel of Montreal and Canada. His Eminence was joined by the cathedral Rector, Mitred Archpriest Vladimir Malchenko, the cathedral clergy, and guests in holy orders. On Saturday, May 30, at all-night vigil, the church was filled with worshipers and pilgrims who had come from other parishes of the Canadian Diocese. On Sunday, May 31, on the very day of Pentecost, despite significant traffic difficulties in downtown Toronto caused by large sports events and roadwork as the city prepared for the World Cup, hundreds of Orthodox Christians came to the cathedral to share in the joy of the patronal feast. As is customary for Holy Trinity Sunday, the church was decorated with an abundance of greenery, flowers, and birch branches, creating a festive atmosphere and reminding everyone of the life-giving grace of the Holy Spirit. The cathedral choir sang beautifully and prayerfully under the direction of choirmaster Alexander Pushchin. His Eminence shared with the clergy and laypeople his impressions from the recent Council of Bishops of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia held in Munich, Germany. The hierarch also noted the growth in the number of Orthodox parishes in North America and Canada, as well as the many English-speaking residents of these countries who are embracing Holy Orthodoxy and joining the life of the Church. The archpastor expressed sincere gratitude to everyone who worked on preparing for the patronal feast. Special words of appreciation were addressed to the sisterhood of the Holy Trinity Cathedral in the name of the Holy Myrrh-Bearing Women, which for many years has selflessly and lovingly carried out its service. The festive services continued on Monday, on the Day of the Holy Spirit. At the end of the Divine Liturgy, Archbishop Gabriel addressed those gathered with a pastoral sermon. The hierarch touched on Christ's teaching, according to which every sin and transgression can be forgiven through sincere repentance, but blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is unforgivable. The Archbishop urged the faithful to keep their hearts pure, not resist the action of God's grace, and to reverently listen to the voice of the Holy Spirit, which leads a person to salvation.
